What are the Legal Documents All Caregivers Need to Know?
This is a journey with your attorney that should be for the rest of your loved one’s life.
USF Health Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute’s Eileen Poiley has helped Caregivers for over 30 years. She speaks with The Center for Caregiver Support Sponsor, Attorney Michelangelo Mortellaro with Mortellaro Law, to walk through what documents your loved one needs and the importance of getting them prepared sooner rather than later.
The legal documents that Caregivers need to complete are Advanced Directives-which is a group of documents intended to allow someone to make legal, medical, and financial decisions on your behalf. There are 3 documents that we look at: Durable Power of Attorney, Health Care Surrogate and Living Will.
Michelangelo says, “It’s not a problem until it is a problem, and you don’t know what you don’t know.” Have a consultation with an Elder Law Attorney in whatever state you live in, because the laws are different state to state and find out if you need to update your current documents or initiate your Advanced Directives.
Listen to this Podcast for more information on Advanced Directives and why you need them as a Caregiver for you and your Loved One.
